Good morning, and welcome to this week’s Weekend Writing Warriors<\/a> post! Today’s snippet is the first 10 sentences of “Open House,” my 80s haunted house story that JUST GOT PUBLISHED on the Storyteller Series podcast! Why yes, I am just a wee bit excited. Yes, I did squee all over this blog announcing it<\/a>. Those of you who are veterans may shrug, but this is a big ol’ deal for little ol’ me. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

OK, on to the snippet: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The woman in the Nike jacket was staring at Kim Idlewood\u2019s husband. Oh, she was trying to be discreet about it\u2014they usually tried to be discreet, unless they were young, hot, and drunk\u2014but it was still obvious. She stood a few feet in front of them in line for an open house, strategically positioned so she could scope out Ed in her peripheral vision. Without intending to, Kim leaned closer to Ed.<\/p>

\u201cAre you cold, love?\u201d Ed wrapped an arm around her shoulders.<\/p>

\u201cA little.\u201d Kim hadn\u2019t been cold since the end of her first trimester, but better to be thought cold than jealous. And on a drizzly December morning in Portland, cold was plausible. <\/p>

The woman in the Nike jacket twitched an eye in their direction.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
